CK LLP SPONSORS STRUMMERFEST'S "SUMMERFEST"
any of Clifton Kok LLP's clients and colleagues are aware, Michael Clifton, a founding partner of the firm, is also founder of the non-profit music festival and concert program known as "Strummerfest".
Originally conceived by Michael in 2012 as a small, memorial concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Joe Strummer (frontman of the seminal punk rock band, The Clash), the project became something bigger when he involved Carrie Humphries (then, and often still, simply known as "Care"), who had experience putting on shows and an expansive list of creative contacts. (Care has since become a local on-air radio personality.)
By the end of 2016, Strummerfest had held nine concert events: two festivals (2012 and 2013) involving over 20 performers each at numerous downtown Kitchener venues, six smaller multi-band concerts at venues in Kitchener (2013), Guelph (2014 & 2016) and Toronto (2016), and a dinner 'gala' held at the Boathouse in Kitchener's Victoria Park (2016). In 2017, Strummerfest is putting on "Summerfest", an outdoor concert that will run from noon to 11 p.m. on August 5, 2017, in Waterloo Public Square, involving at least 10 performances by local indie bands, solo artists and a DJ.
Each Strummerfest event adheres to the slogan of being for "Music, Memory, Charity". Michael strives to use primarily local indie musical talent, and ensures that each concert supports charitable objectives. The primary beneficiaries of these efforts have been Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council and Your Life Counts.
In order to accomplish all that, Strummerfest relies on donations and other support from individuals and many corporations. Clifton Kok LLP has been a constant support of Michael's endeavours, and this year received the unique label of "LIfetime Partner", meaning it will always be listed amongst the event's sponsors. Other sponsors include a variety of local businesses and many who work with Clifton Kok LLP serving Ontario condominium's, largely due to Michael's contacts in that industray.
